Karin Abramova – Digital Strategist

Meet Karin, she is a digital strategist with eyes set on the advertising world, a writer, a foodie, an avid traveler, lover of art, and is obsessed with walking. But that doesn’t come close to defining what makes her such a dynamic person.
Karin was born in Soviet Russia and as a child wanted to be a military commander, an actress, a director, and a financier. “In that order” she specifies. She has lived in Prague, Magadan, Vladivostok and Vancouver. It was in Vancouver that she discovered her passion for advertising and decided to move to Toronto to attend Ryerson University.
Karin cites David Ogilvy’s ‘Confessions of an Ad Man‘ as an early inspiration for a career in advertising, she adds “It’s a perfect mix of business-minded and creative folks.” There are practical matters of dealing with clients and managing strategy, marketing, and communications. But at the same time it requires one to be on top of current events, fashion, arts and culture.
Having graduated, Karin currently works as a digital strategist, which involves helping “clients reach their marketing goals through the Internet.” Karin writes marketing plans, creates strategies, educates clients on social networking, and also puts forward social media initiatives within her company. She likes seeing how the digital world is changing traditional media and wants to be part of it.
Recently, Karin organized Toronto’s first Slow Art event. The goal of Slow Art is to visit a gallery and look at a single piece of art work for more than 10 minutes (the average is 8 seconds), which exercises “one’s seeing, feeling and perceiving muscles.” She is working on holding another Slow Art in April 2010.
Karin doesn’t sit around and wait for things to happen, she actively looks for “interesting and unique experiences and people that add something new to [her] as a person.” This trait is evident in a Hannibal quote that she refers to, “I will either find a way or make one”.

Your project is interesting, keep it up and good luck!
Karin is a very special person, and this portrait of her is very accurate. I got the chance to meet her through a project we worked on together, and discovered she has the same obsession I had for food. We decided to meet in real, and since then I consider her one of my very dear friends. Her energy, intelligence, and passion are beyond surreal.
Karin looks great! What a shot.

And a military commander Karin I love it!! And can see it, that’s why I’m not surprised to read that’s your favourite quote. Dream big lady, you’ve got what it takes.
Thanks a lot Keri! I’m really happy with how this photo turned out. The light was falling fast and it started to rain, but ultimately it all came together well.

Excellent photo and story. I like the idea of everyone referring to their favorite quote. Would it make sense to put their quotes as a sub-titles?
